Summer Swimsuit Edition!

Here are some pictures of swimsuits that I found on-line. These aren’t actually from Qatar, but you will see these here, especially among Arab ex-pats. My wife is having one brought back from Egypt. Wearing a get up like this isn’t necessary, but it does tend to cut down on the stare factor.

Other ways that women deal with this problem are to swim in indoor women-only pools, to swim with an abaya covering the body (a bit impractical unless you’re just wading), to swim in remote locations far from prying eyes (best bet), or to forego swimming altogether. With even night time temperatures climbing into the thirties, this last option would be unfortunate. One more option is whenever you swim, to bring along your mean and nasty western ex-pat husband to kick some serious behind if anybody gets impolite.

Sorry if I havent read your blog too much, maybe I should already know this question before I ask. Is your wife Arab? You say you are a western ex pat? From where? Thanks.

I wish I would have had one of those when my husband and I went jet skiing a few years ago. The abaya didn't work too well. ;)

I saw a couple of these on some girls from Kuwait last year in Malaysia. I'm actually waiting now to get some that a very nice sister picked up for me in kuwait. I can't wait to get them and take a dive in the water parks on our trip to Malaysia.

zoe, it doesn't take the joy out of swimming, far from it. Most Muslim women wouldn't do much swimming if such suits werent available. So it actually provides joy for many.

Yes, very handy to have a grumpy exapat.

Years ago in Goa, India I was amused to see 2 topless European sunbathers surrounded by fully dressed local men, needless to say oggling them without inhibition.
But I must say that I was more embarrassed than the 2 girls ;)
