Actually, farms usually have dogs. Muslims don't keep dogs as pets, but they do keep them for guard dogs, hunting, shepherding animals, etc.
By the way, Sylwia, I saw your blog and posted a comment explaining why many women go to their mothers' houses to spend the 40 days after childbrth. You seem to have the wrong idea about that.
